The trap works by putting something the monkey wants inside a coconut shell, like food. The coconut is chained to the ground
A hole is made that is just large enough for the monkey to put their
hand inside, but too small for it to remove once it has grabbed a
handful of food
The Monkey is now trapped by its own desire for the food which is over riding its awareness of the trap and the on coming hunters
It never gets to the point of realising that it has to let go of the food to take its hand out and rethink the situation
